The worg "yog" has so many meanings. So we have to use appropriate meanings to describe the functions or objectives of Yoga for attaining success in intellectual pursuits in the material world and the sub-processes prescribed by scholars of vedic and post vedic tradition.

In this article such an attempt will be made.

What a brahmin has to do?

Learn, teach, do yajnas, help others to do yajnas, to take daan, to give daan.

Why daan?

Brahmins, the intellectual community has to contribute value to the other professions so that there is surplus. Daan is given out of surplus. It is only when intellectual really contribute and help other professions to create surplus that they have the means to live. They are asked to give daan also. What does it mean? The brahmin or the intellectual person is not expected to accumulate wealth. So whenever he has surplus he is asked to give daan.

A brahmin is to learn on a continuous basis. Tapas or present day research was prescribed for Brahmins. Purans were heard by brahmins first. Then then promoted the purans among others.

What is yajna?  Yajna is practicing the knowledge. The tapas or research may produce new knowledge. But it has to be put in practice to give benefits to society. Brahmins are asked to perform yajnas for the benefit of society and also to support yajnas performed by other professionals.

Be nice to people whenever you can. Make them laugh whenever you can. Lessen their sorrow whenever you can. - Narayana Rao

“Frequently, when I suggest to people that they detach from a person or problem, they recoil in horror. “Oh, no!” they say. “I could never do that. I love him, or her, too much. I care too much to do that. This problem or person is too important to me. I have to stay attached!” My answer to that is, “WHO SAYS YOU HAVE TO?” I’ve got news—good news. We don’t “have to.” There’s a better way. It’s called “detachment.” It may be scary at first, but it will ultimately work better for everyone involved.”

"If you decide to change but don't tell anyone that you are changing it's going to take them really long to pick upon it. Instead tell them ... Now, people would be on the lookout for your changed behaviour and when you do change, people will be more aware of it and give you more credit for doing so."
- Dorie Clark,  CEO Clark Strategic Communications and adjunct professor of business administration at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business.
