New Year Greetings 2013 With a Poem

I had a look my thought by NRao blog. I came across my poem for the 2012 greeting. Got into the mood to write one for 2013. Gave the spirit to post it in social media and send some emails. Otherwise it was a dull day. The best wishes that friends and relatives send certainly change your mood.

Hope for the best and Leave the God the Rest became the main thought today.

What Management Gurus do to succeed?

Read a HBR blog post by H. James Wilson on "The Guru's Guide to Creating Thought Leadership"

You need to be relevant to current ideas.
Your ideas must contribute to current objectives or current concerns.
You must be able to link old thought and with the new idea.
You have to be at appropriate time in the idea cycle as managers are trying to solve the current problem of focus.

They say even bloggers have to practice it.

ISP's to Monitor File Sharing and Penalize Users?

Music, Films and TV Program producers and distributors are embracing digital media in a big way but are fighting simultaneously to protect their present channels also. They know that their models have to change as cost of duplicating content and transmitting it  has come down drastically in the internet world. But as yet, they have not found a solution that is destroying their current margins and profits. Files can be more easily shared on internet and banning file sharing through agreements is a not a real solution. That is where free website models have done great service to the society.

There needs to be technology that does not create a file when transmitting film, music or tv program on internet. Then a subscriber can only watch a film on his computer and can't create a file and transfer. But such a technology is not there and people are downloading YouTube videos.

The Films association of America is trying to get into an agreement with Internet Service Providers to monitor users' file sharing and penalise them for sharing files with copyright content.

2 Million AdSense Accounts for 7 Billion Population - Is It Ok?

17.12.2012

Currently Adsense home page says there are 2 million+ AdSense publishers.

The World population is now 7 billion.
Internet users 2.405 billion. ( http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats.htm  )

This gives 1200 internet users for one account. Can they give reasonable income?

Average American internet user is spending 8 to 10 hours per day online. 80% is spent in mail, facebbook, Twitter and Search. Only 20% is spent for content reading for leisure. May be it means, 80% of the time is spent for business reasons or business related transactions and only 20% is spent for leisure transctions. During leisure time he may visit about 15 pages. The pages may contain 2 to 3 ads per page. ATKearney estimates that it will translate to 6 cents per users at $1.80 per 1000 ad impressions.
http://www.atkearney.com/documents/10192/d3019b59-521f-42a6-8bc7-e7fd7301c24c

This means that average site can have 7200 cents per day, which is 72 dollars per day. It is plausible if 1200 visitors are visiting 18,000 pages a day. Or it can be interpreted that on an average the adsense publishers can have 18,000 page views per day. Interesting number.

Creation and Evolution - Both Processes Exist at the Same Time

God and Nature have a relation. Most of the religions make God supreme and state that God controls nature. In Hindu religion, nature frequently goes to God to seek his help. But, it is nature that makes soul to live in it as a living being. Soul has to escape the viles of nature to trap it and make his a part of it. So nature has its own laws and God has his own laws. So it is triangular game with free will or limited free will of each living being and unlimited powers of God and Nature.

Accepting evolution and even forced evolution when man is able to create many hybrid living beings, is not a problem. But that still does not rule out the creation by God at an ancient time or even now.

External Sites - Page Linking Policy

External Sites - Page Linking Policy for Blogs maintained by Narayana Rao

Linking to external sites and pages is an important activity as it promotes online content and makes more people aware of the content. Also references to online content is through links only. This is one way of social network content recommendation. There are many online articles which are good and appropriate to certain group of readers, but they do not get visitors because potential readers are unaware of them. Hence including links to external sites in both articles as well as bibliographies is an important online activity.

In our blogs, we provide external links as references and bibliographic collections. Also, Blog book collection is our way of collecting various online articles into chapters and  books on various subjects. But we take care to see that all external links are to content pages or sites that have copy right or permission to host the content. We make it a point to link to the sites of authors or publishers.

Videos are important online content now and they also suffer neglect as many readers are not ware of them. Providing links to videos or embedding videos is an important online activity. But we take care to see that links are provided or videos are embedded of YouTube Partners only. Otherwise, we check whether it is uploaded by an organization that has created the video itself. We take care all the care to see that only videos uploaded copyright holders are linked or embedded in blog posts. In case of any error, we remove the video or the post at the earliest.

We provide links to Google Books pages, as it provides preview facility and some books are of full view and they are helpful to learners and faculty members. Main focus of our blogs is education even though there are blogs catering to some leisure time and fitness activities that are essential to all learners.

We will not link to any site that expressly prohibits linking to it.

AdSense Policies to Stop Plagiarism and Discourage Promotion of Plagiarised Content

If your website or blog contains copy-right content in any page, AdSense will be removed when it Google AdSense people come to know of it in their automatic scrutiny or when someone complains.

Also if your site contains links to sites that are hosting copy right materials without permission, AdSense will be removed when it finds out in its scrutiny process or when a complaint is received.

This is a good policy to bring discipline in online world. I came across certain site expressly writing that people are not allowed to link to material in that site without permission. So AdSense publishers have to take note of this condition also. If a site prohibits linking, AdSense publishers can't link to that site. Normally sites encourage linking to get traffic to their sites. But there are some sites writing very clearly upfront that linking is not permitted.

Embedding of YouTube Videos

Many YouTube videos are not posted by their copy right owners but by others. AdSense publishers may have to be careful with this situation also. As a precaution, it will be prudent if only videos of YouTube partners are embedded. Some YouTube videos have prohibited embedding. There is no issue as you one can't embed them.

Social Content and Social Content Producers

What is social media?
My definition.
It is collection of papers/periodicals run by each individual participant with an unschedule.

Brian Solis is trying to develop the concept of Social content. There can be traditional media content on Social media platforms. But it is not social content.

Social content is not only consumable but is also shareable and actionable and  acts as catalyst for relevant conversations.

Social content producers  begin with the social media outcomes they wish to see and reverse engineer content strategies to enliven them.

http://pandodaily.com/2012/07/23/infographics-are-not-a-social-media-strategy/

Performance Artists and Angry and Sullen Crowds

Performance artists sometimes face angry, sullen and uninterested crowds. Still, professionals they are, they have to enact their performance and try to attract the attention of the audience and thrill them.

Came across the incident where, highly applauded singer, Ronald Hayes has to face the ire of Germans in Berlin. Came across the incident in a book Schuler first.

____________

Experience of Ronald Hayes

When Hayes visited Berlin in September 1923 he found the appreciation slightly harder to come by. Time magazine that year wrote:

To Germans, black men are “colonials”; they encountered them in the French line during the War; more recently, in the Ruhr. Learning that a member of this unpopular race was to appear publicly in their midst, Berliners were indignant. Protests were made to the American Ambassador against the “impertinence” of permitting a Negro to be heard on the concert stage, against the lèst majesté of offering musically scrupulous Berlin the tunes of the Georgia cotton-pickers.

Not entirely surprisingly, when Hayes appeared on stage, the audience started booing and hissing almost immediately. Hearing the noise the apprehensive singer suddenly decided to change his rehearsed programme and started the evening singing Schubert’s Du Bist Die Ruh. It was a German favourite and the crowd quietened almost immediately but by the end of the song, the audience, throwing their prejudice aside, were on their feet cheering and applauding the black American singer.

Personal Branding

William Arruda, founder of Reach Personal Branding, says “Your brand resides in the hearts and minds of those around you.”

Your brand is your personal DNA -- the combination of personal attributes, values, strengths, and passions that people know you for and that represent the value you offer.

It’s up to you to communicate a crystal clear, consistent message across multiple channels – online and offline – that differentiates your unique promise of value and resonates with your target audience.

What is Wisdom? - Different Viewpoints

Disctionaries

a : accumulated philosophic or scientific learning : knowledge
b : ability to discern inner qualities and relationships : insight

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/wisdom

Psychologists pretty much agree it involves an integration of knowledge, experience, and deep understanding that incorporates tolerance for the uncertainties of life as well as its ups and downs. There's an awareness of how things play out over time, and it confers a sense of balance.

Wise people generally share an optimism that life's problems can be solved and experience a certain amount of calm in facing difficult decisions.

http://www.psychologytoday.com/basics/wisdom

Philosophy

This entry will provide a general overview, and analysis of, some dominant views on the topic of wisdom. It will cover several versions of four general approaches to understanding what is wisdom: (1) wisdom as epistemic humility, (2) wisdom as epistemic accuracy, (3) wisdom as knowledge, and (4) wisdom as knowledge and action.

http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/wisdom/

Wisdom of God - Explanation in Bible

A. W. Tozer and J. I. Packer have defined wisdom as follows:

“In the Holy Scriptures wisdom, when used of God and good men, always carries a strong moral connotation. It is conceived as being pure, loving, and good.… Wisdom, among other things, is the ability to devise perfect ends and to achieve those ends by the most perfect means. It sees the end from the beginning, so there can be no need to guess or conjecture. Wisdom sees everything in focus, each in proper relation to all, and is thus able to work toward predestined goals with flawless precision.”

A. W. Tozer, The Knowledge of the Holy (San Francisco: Harper and Row, Publishers, 1961), p. 66.
J. I. Packer, Knowing God,   (Downers Grove: Inter-Varsity Press, 1973) p. 80.

Beatitudes - The Be-Happy Attitudes from Bible - Robert Schuller

What is beatitude?

Beatitude is blessedness. God has blessed you. The state of a person who is blessed by the God is blessedness.

Understand from the opposite of it.

The opposite of beatitude is misery.
Misery means being afflicted unwillingly with painful sufferings.

Beatitude is happiness and bliss. It is an attitude toward things that happen in our life on earth. Jesus preached the beatitudes for the Kingdom of Heaven.

While the Beatitudes of Jesus provide a way of life that promises salvation (peaceful and blissful life after death), they also provide peace in the midst of our trials and tribulations on this earth.

1. Be poor in spirit - Accept that you are poor in comparison the God. Accept that you are poor in  comparison to the society - the universal spirit.

2. Mourning - May be you are mourning - Believe for the best in future

3. Be Meek  - Meek is translation for Greek - praotes.

Aristotle defines meekness, praotēs as the mean between orgilotēs,
which means excessive anger, and aorgēsia, which means excessive
angerlessness.

  • "Always" and "never" are binary words that practically always I practically never use.
  • To be uncertainty averse is to be afraid or what we don't know what to be afraid of.

We not only under utilize our emotional intelligence, we pollute it. As a result personal human capital is misunderstood, misdeveloped and misused; and this affects all human behavior. As a result the brain speaks one language, the mind speaks another and much gets lost in translation.

Pure happiness is a litmus test of the pure self. If you do not have pure happiness then you do not have a pure self. Pure happiness is a symptom of your pure self.

Trying to create pure happiness is the same as trying to create a pure life, a wise life. Pure happiness is an innate expression of the pure self. Learning to become wise boils down to learning to become happy. Selflessness being the key to wisdom means that selflessness is the key to pure happiness. Learning to become selfless is learning to become wise which generates wise behavior which produces pure happiness.

***
Fragrance is hard to define; yet there is a humongous perfume industry. Similarly wisdom is hard to define and man can develop an even bigger wisdom industry.
Man has not figured out wisdom but has a good understanding of its attributes; so he keeps seeking wisdom by trying to cultivate its attributes. It is like trying to cultivate the apple without the apple tree. By trying to create wisdom through cultivating its attributes man ends up creating neither.

We must wake up to the fact that we cannot define fragrance yet look at the fragrance industry! Why can't we do the same with the wisdom industry. Fragrance is a luxury while wisdom is not only an essential necessity; it brings with it health, wealth and happiness.

Transmitting knowledge is a fact similar to throwing a stone into the water: the greater weight or more content produced concentric circles that expand to reach a greater number of human beings.
If we read twice a book at second time or turn to watch a movie or a play and we have a different view of the previous time, it means that our knowledge has increased.
The knowledge is transmitted in different ways. Let’s use them to grow in wisdom.
Many people think they are smart if they know a lot of data but cannot connect it.
True intelligence is analyzing related data to decide correctly.

About decisions and behavior

  • Always and never are binary words that practically always I practically never use.
  • Before making a decision, sleep over it, even if it makes you sleepless.

  • Mistakes come from bad cognition (reasoning, memory), emotional biases (frights, desires)or automaticity (habit, reflex..). For a big mistake, better combine the three.

About money

  • Inventing money gave birth to arithmetics, writing, and thus History. A small step for the purse, a big step for mankind!
  • Money is the Swiss army knife of the economy. Have it in your pocket, or have a bank carry it for you.

About knowledge and uncertainty

  • To kneel in front of generally accepted knowledge without asking questions is not knowledge but kneeledge
  • To have doubts about uncertainty is not enough to be certain
  • Better feel uncertain about certainties, as uncertainty is more certain.

  • All along your life you have to learn, which needs efforts, and sometimes to de-learn, which needs much more efforts.
  • Some people are trying to know what you think they think about what you think. This makes it a bit hard not to disappoint them.

About society
  • Globalization is the world becoming itself.
  • The human beings own society but society does not own the human beings
  • A government supported by the poor might logically want to have more poors. It does not mean that one supported by the rich would want more rich people.

I have a very clear path to a better world but I cannot do it alone. I am a theorist just like a script writer; who still needs the whole movie production team to make the movie. Are you with me?
I now have a very clear path to clean up much of the mess in the world today.
It is definitely due to the lack of our understanding what the mind is. The mind is the most important part of every human being. The fact that we have failed to define the mind has led to this lack of even trying to educate each mind to the +2 super mature level. The higher the intelligence and the emotional intelligence; the higher the mind. We have cutting edge subjects like math and science for developing intelligence and zero subjects for developing emotional intelligence. And herein lies the problem. The mind is powered by intelligence and emotional intelligence and so we have a highly developed professional intelligence while our emotional intelligence is left undeveloped. Fortunately many factors contribute to a small section of humanity developing their emotional intelligence to the super mature level. While the vast majority is left to a life of struggle due to a messed up emotional intelligence.
The Mind.
The mind is a super sense that is formed by a mixture of the five senses and is powered by intelligence and emotional intelligence. The mind is a process that is projected by the brain in the form of self consciousness. Self consciousness takes the input from the five senses and with the help of intelligence and emotional intelligence acts/reacts to navigate life. The mind is a projection of the brain which the brain uses to become self conscious. The brain physically synthesizes the input from the five senses and these together form the mixture/compound of the mind. The quality of the brain determines the quality of the mind.
The question is that it does not matter what the mind is; the question is is there a way to educate/make the mind super mature? The highest quality mind is powered by selflessness! And selflessness can be taught. Every mind can be made selfless! Thus every mind can be made +2 super mature!!!

I think that you need to look inside yourself for wisdom. You have to believe in yourself and understand yourself completely. It doesn't matter how intelligent you are: if you are comfortable with yourself you will be smart, no matter what the situation.

Wit, on the other hand, is something you learn. My wit stems from British comedies and farces and Early Modern dramas and comedies by Shakespeare, Fletcher and Beaumont and all the other great playwrights of that era. I think also that wit is an acquired taste -- you either like it or not!!!

Sajid Khan

'The brain is the engine, while the car is the physical body of the human being where the mind is the driver of this car of life.'

It is very clear to me that wisdom is a compound where all its individual attributes/ingredients have in them all the other attributes of wisdom. Wisdom is an all entity where each attribute of wisdom is biochemically compounded to every other attribute of wisdom. They all come together in a single unit of wisdom. Each attribute boils down to wisdom. For example love also contains all the other attributes of wisdom like respect, caring, sacrifice etc. However the chief property that makes love pure is selflessness. Selfless love is pure love. Again selfless caring is wisdom. Selfless sacrifice is wisdom. All the attributes of wisdom are powered by selflessness. Each attribute boils down to selflessness; thus selflessness is wisdom. So it will not be wrong to figure out/assume that by creating selflessness we will be creating wisdom. Selflessness is the power that generates wisdom. In order to become wise one has to become selfless. Becoming selfless means being free of one's own self image/ego as far as possible. Selflessness is known, understood and definable within the paradigm of science! Selflessness can be taught as a pure science subject; just like math and science. Please google 'Self Image Therapy'.

  • Wisdom determines the health, happiness and prosperity of the individual, group and country.
  • Wisdom is the ingredient that sweetens the pudding of life.
  • It is the source of our fundamental talent - the talent to become one's real self.)
  • Where ignorance leaves wisdom enters.
  • Understanding wisdom is harder than becoming wise.
  • Wisdom is the fragrance of the brain.
  • Wisdom is wisdom. It still requires learning the ropes of life to succeed.
  • Tiger Woods without practice is no Tiger Woods.
  • My biggest secret of life is the real me. Your biggest secret of life is the real you.
  • Those who uncover this secret become wise.
  • Wisdom has its limits. It cannot provide ultimate answers, it only provides the best possible answers.
  • Your best is always yet to come.
  • Tomorrow is not another day if you are going to keep repeating the same mistakes again and again.
  • Love your neighbor for your own mental health.
  • Your best will always be the same until you actualize your true self.

  • Your conscience is the real you.
  • The day you and your conscience become one that will be the day. { you were born for }
  • Peace is a fruit of the wisdom tree. You cannot cultivate peace without cultivating the wisdom tree.
  • All the attributes of wisdom are fruits of the wisdom tree. You cultivate one - the wisdom tree - and you cultivate them all.
  • You can try to cultivate the individual fruits without the tree but you will not succeed.
  • You cannot create a mango without the mango tree.
  • The wisdom tree is the key - the key to free will.
  • A squeaky clean brain grantees wisdom.
  • The best you can be is to become wise.
  • The day you understand the implications of winning a billion human race that day you understand your true potential.
  • Your true potential is the real you.
  • Your self image is your emotional boss.
  • Your self image blocks you from becoming wise.
  • Your self image can never make you truly happy, only the real you can.
  • Most humans are Greek to themselves. It need not be so.
  • You cannot say to some one to be truthful and honest while his brain continues to generate selfishness powered by electrochemical reactions. Asking or pleading with a physically and emotionally ignorant brain to stop generating the wrong electrochemical reactions is almost like telling a dirty bed sheet to clean itself! It will never happen.
  • Spiritual intelligence = wisdom =self mastery = +2 emotional intelligence. They are all one and the same entity. You cultivate one you cultivate them all.
Time is an opportunity disguised as life. Life is an opportunity disguised as time.
Contextual mindfulness is virtually getting into the mind set of your own self image from the inside out       as well as from an observer's outside in point of view, while at the same time being aware of performing this mind exercise to observe what the mind is observing and why...like the images in parallel mirrors.
As FDR said 'The only thing you need to fear is fear itself'. I will take this statement one step further 'The only thing to fear is to fear the cause that creates fear - thus the only thing to fear is ignorance!'.

Ignorance is a symptom of an impure self just as wisdom is a symptom of the pure self.
'New knowledge is like a drop of fresh water that is
dropped into a glass full of old water.
The key to wisdom is to learn to remove the stale water and replace it with the fresh water'.

  • When the answer cannot be put into words, neither can the question be put into words. The riddle does not exist. If a question can be framed at all, it is also possible to answer it. Scepticism is not irrefutable, but obviously nonsensical, when it tries to raise doubts where no questions can be asked. Good page views

It is nice that there are good weekly page views for the knol.

Should we focus on humor for sometime. Transfer wisdom down and create space for humor at the top. A variation could bring more visitors.
Narayana Rao - 05 Nov 2009
Yes, why not a humor section.
Of course there might be some difficulty at sorting between wit and wisdom in the case of citations which are at the same time deeply wise and still attract roaring laughter (this happens, remember Groucho Marx or Sacha Guitry), but those can appear in both sections. In fact it seems to me that this is the spirit of this page.
So we might start that humor section but if we see that it brings just a collection of meaningless jokes (like French jokes about Belgians or vice versa ;-), we would have in my opinion to get back to the status quo ante.
Peter Greenfinch - 05 Nov 2009
I'm very happy with the page views!

Yes, maybe we should put in subsections for humor and other categories?

70 page views in a week

Some knol authors are writing really high quality knols.

Good for the knol platform and authors.

I felt knol should become TOP 100 Website

Hope wit and wisdom contribute to it.

Yes, I hope it will continue to do so. I'm hoping to attract all kinds of authors with bits of wisdom they would like to contribute.

Vaidheeswaran S

Death is hereditary ? I am hearing this for the first time.
What do you mean by that ? you are talking as if death is a disease.
minoo bhagia - 31 Jul 2009
Wow ! no children for an infertile couple. Why didn't I thought of it....just brilliant !
keep it up.

Vaidheeswaran , why don't you write something in philosophy debate.I am the only person from India who is writing over there. You can also join if you want.
minoo bhagia - 31 Jul 2009
thank you.
infertility of a man or woman will not pass because no children for a infertile person. I put this because I felt this tells about death in a different prospective. If wrong tell me I will delete.
Vaidheeswaran Sivanesan - 30 Jul 2009
:) From T shirt ? must be 2BU T-shirt....
That means life is also hereditary , then why only infertility is non hereditary ? I have seen so many families where it is hereditary.
I liked your quote '' Quit smoking is very easy, I quit it many times.''
minoo bhagia - 30 Jul 2009
Thank you for your comment.
I feel this line gives the meaning that death is happening to everybody in the world generation by generation. No one is exception to death.
I got this line from a t-shirt quote.
And I formed one more line like this “infertility is non-hereditary”.
Vaidheeswaran Sivanesan - 29 Jul 2009

Angel (A)

Dear Angela , see what have you done...?
you made all ''sausages and meat '' of my posts.

If you permit I can edit it tomorrow as I have lost all my ATP's thinking and writing in philosophy debate.
minoo bhagia - 27 Jul 2009

Removed myself as co-author - This is better

@all authors of this knol: I removed myself as a co-author from the Wit knol. This is because I think this knol is a very good and clever idea YOU had and because I write one sentence I do not deserve to be named a "co-author". Unfortunately I do not have the time to be a co-author to this knol (actually and to be honest I have little time to spend on my own knols...). But thanks anyway! I believe this is the more just thing to do. I will continue posting and supporting you in all the ways I can in this effort! Keep knoling!
